Talbot has broken its long-standing winless drought in the MCDFNL’s A grade netball competition, defeating Royal Park by nine goals on Sunday.
The 42-33 win was Talbot’s first since round 15 of the 2016 season and ended a run of 19 consecutive games without a win.
After helping Talbot almost get across the line in the Hawks’ round one draw against Maryborough Rovers, goal attack Eleisha Phelps returned to the side after missing round two and made a major impact, shooting 29 goals from 40 attempts in a best on court performance.
Talbot was solid across all four quarters of the contest, working to a one-goal lead at quarter time and a six-goal advantage at the major break.
Royal Park rallied in the third to win the quarter 10-9 but couldn’t repeat the comeback in the final term as the Hawks ran away with the match, shooting 12 goals to eight.
The breakthrough win has elevated Talbot to eighth position on the ladder with a two-point lead on Avoca and Lexton. Royal Park sits in 11th.
