Carisbrook has fended off a strong challenge by Lexton to stand as one of five undefeated teams of the 2018 MCDFNL season after two rounds.
Forced to work considerably harder than their round one trouncing of Navarre, the Redbacks had to overcome a four-goal third quarter deficit to record an eventual 43-37 victory over the Tigers.
In a defence-favoured first term, Carisbrook broke away to an 11-7 lead by quarter time with both sides missing chances at goal.
With Krystal Fisher stepping up in defence and Lexton getting more midcourt turnovers, the Tigers outscored Carisbrook 13-6 in the second quarter and held a three goal lead at halftime.
After putting up one goal in the first quarter, Rachel Phelan shot nine from nine attempts in the second, helping the Tigers to the lead.
Alana Jenkins then took charge in the third term, shooting nine goals from 10 attempts as Lexton again outscored Caris-brook, this time 12-11.
The game changed dramatically in the final term however, and Lexton couldn’t create enough chances with Carisbrook’s Janae Lanfranchi and Elise Mottram winning the defensive battle.
Having shot accurately all game, Chrissy James shot 12 goals from 14 attempts in the final term as the Redbacks won the quarter 15-5 to win the game.
