Carisbrook has claimed its biggest-ever win over Navarre and sent a loud and clear warning shot to rival teams in the opening weekend of the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League’s 2018 season, with the reigning premiers belting the Grasshoppers by 87 points under lights on Saturday night.
While the game was billed as the traditional round one grand final replay, the game was far from the competitive and enthralling 2017 decider, with the Redbacks running riot and compiling a massive 37 shots on goal in a 16.21 (117) to 4.6 (30) victory.
Gun recruit Ash Munari lived up to expectations in his first appearance for Carisbrook, with the former Gordan midfielder and forward booting five goals in an awesome best on ground performance.
Up until Saturday night, the average margin across the 19 contests between Navarre and Carisbrook since 2011 had been just 30 points, but the idea of the Redbacks being anywhere near average at the weekend was lost in the opening quarter as they banged home six goals to one to lead 6.4 (40) to 1.2 (8) at quarter time.
