Tayla Maffescioni sets new record at NCD swimming carnival

After spending a number of years away from the pool, Tayla Maffescioni made a surprise comeback and set a new a record at the North Central Division swimming carnival.

Talented local swimmer Tayla Maffescioni has set a new record.

Competing with 28 fellow Maryborough Education Centre students late last month at the North Central Division swimming carnival in St Arnaud, Tayla smashed the previously held 17- year-old girls’ backstroke record and made a personal best.

Beating the original record of 41.5 seconds, set in 2008, Talya clocked in at 40.41 seconds.

Tayla said she was “very surprised” by the result, as she has not been in training for some time.

“I quit the Maryborough Swimming Club in 2016 and I haven’t swam in a couple of years, so I didn’t think I’d go that well,” she said.
