As the final round of the Maryborough District Cricket Association draws to a close, the top four sides prepare for what could be a significant re-shuffle of rankings.
Featuring a clash of the top two between Clunes and Laanecoorie Dunolly, the match could decide who enters finals in top spot on the ladder.
Currently separated by six points, the pair have only met once this season in round three, where Laane was the victor.
After sitting lower on the ladder for a number of years, Laane has been at the top of its game this season, already taking out the one- day grand final.
Clashing on Saturday, Clunes made a competitive start to the round, making 207 thanks to some strong play from its batsmen.
Left with only 11 overs to make a response, Laane did not have the chance to make a significant impact, finishing the day 1/29.
With a long way still to go, Laane will need to be in top form to ensure it doesn’t lose its top spot.
After its confidence was damaged when Maryborough knocked it from the top of the ladder late in the season, Laane have made a valiant effort to climb back to first place.
However, the Magpies have also found success this season, remaining unbeaten since round nine, where they also suffered a defeat to the Owls.
