The Dunolly Bowling Club has claimed its third Goldfields Bowls Division premiership for the 2017- 18 season, as its Blue team took out the midweek pennant grand final on Tuesday.
The 16-shot victory over the long- reigning Highland Tartan is the third season decider a Dunolly team has won this year, after the club’s Blue and Gold teams won the first and second division of the Saturday pennant earlier this month.
Dunolly has entered a team in all four grand finals this year, and Tuesday’s win was extra sweet as the Blues won at the Tartan’s home ground.
While the Tartans remained on top of the midweek ladder throughout the season, Dunolly Blue sat in fourth towards the end of the season, making a mammoth effort to climb to third and take out two finals to score a place in the season decider.
Kicking things off on Tuesday in cool conditions, Highland got away to a good start, as Leanne Wallis and her teammates led by six shots by the 15 ends break.
When play resumed, Dunolly skipper Loretta Parker swung into high gear and completely outclassed Highland, scoring a mammoth 25 shots to four, putting Dunolly in the box seat and ultimately a grand final win.
