Three local netballers will receive top training after being selected for the 2018 Netball Zone Academy program.
Myah Linton, Bella Westbrook and Gina Ross were selected for the Netball Victoria initiative after trying out for their respective zones, and now have a nine-month program to look forward to.
With the state split into six areas, Myah will attend the Western zone, while Bella and Gina will train in the Northern zone.
During the program, which runs from this month until October, the girls will attend one session each month to learn netball tactics and techniques as well as fitness and wellbeing skills.
According to Myah’s mother, Tamielle Linton, the program only accepts 20 to 30 athletes into each zone.
“It’s a pretty good job to get into your area when you think about how many girls are playing netball these days,” she said.
“It’s a pathway into playing higher levels of netball.” Ms Linton said the program teaches skills not only on the court but also in overall wellbeing.
“It’s about nutrition, hygiene, goal setting, motivation, and time management as well. It’s quite an extensive program,” she said.
