Maryborough have dominated the Maryborough District Cricket Association’s top side for the second time, making easy work of finishing off ladder leader Creswick Imperials at the weekend.
Despite the threat of rain, the second innings of round 12 went off without a hitch, and it was no hindrance to the Owls as they added another win to their tally.
It was also the second consecutive round in which Maryborough has beaten the MDCA’s ladder leader, after it scored a seven-wicket victory over Laanecoorie Dunolly in round 11 and knocked the side back to second place.
After bowling the Knights out for 116 during the first innings and finishing the day’s overs 1/77, Maryborough had no trouble beating Creswick’s score as it took to the pitch once again on Saturday.
With a Corey Taylor and Mitch McClure combination finishing stumps during the first innings, the pair picked up where they left off on Saturday and went on to do some significant damage.
Taylor smashed out 76 while McClure added 30, easily outscoring the Knights, whose biggest batting score during the first innings came from Richard Palmer (30).
The combined score of Martin Dell (7) and Todd Doran (5) was more than enough to see the Owls to victory, with the side finishing the day 4/133.
Ashley Coxall was the only Creswick bowler to make an impact on the Owls’ batting side, taking 2/18 during his overs.
