MKM move from bottom of the ladder with win

MKMʼs Dion Hedger turns to face the umpire as he appeals for a LBW decision.

MKM has claimed victory for just the second time this season to work its way off the bottom of the MDCA ladder with a powerhouse seven-wicket win over Colts Phelans.

In the final round of one-day matches in 2017-18, Mill simply would not let the opportunity of a second victory slip, bowling out Colts for a 137 runs before surpassing the total in just 26 overs to secure the win.

Sent into bat first on the Ron Sinclair Oval wicket, Colts’ batsmen could not occupy the crease for long enough as wickets tumbled with regularity.

While Luke Tatchell was good enough opening the batting, scoring 22, Colts was forced to wait until an eighth-wicket partnership between Dayne Baker and Richie Clark to see two batsmen combine for more than 20 runs.

Baker, the innings’ highest scorer with 32, and Clarke (7) put on 28 runs together, a partnership that was matched by an 11th wicket stance between Matthew Henderson (23) and Rylan Jardine (1 not out).

Des Falconer was the key bowler for MKM, creating regular breakthroughs to take 4/25.

Rhys Wagstaff defends on Saturday in Colts Phelansʼ loss to MKM.
