MKM has made a winning start to the 2017-18 MDCA season, denying an improved Carisbrook side to claim a confidence-boosting 14- run win on Saturday.
Foreshadowed by returning captain Joel Radlof in the lead up to the season’s opening, Mill played attacking cricket and were bowled out for 159 after electing to bat first, before restricting Carisbrook to 8/145 from its reply 40 overs.
MKM’s cavalier innings was dotted by important contributors and partnerships but was highlighted by an even half century to opener Liam Radlof.
After fellow opener Travis Moschetti was bowled for a duck by Liam Hurse before MKM had a run on the board, Radlof provided the spine of MKM’s innings, combining with Jason Sinclair (15) for a 19 run partnership, Dion Hedger (28) for a 40-run stand and brother Joel Raldof (4) for a 16-run combination.
He also stood alongside an attacking Kieran Johns (27) in a 51-run partnership before finally succumbing to Cole Harris on 50 with MKM at 5/125.
Johns was dismissed without adding another run to the total before a 4/11 collapse ended Mill’s innings in the 36th over.
Harris was the chief destroyer for Carisbrook with the ball in hand, claiming 4/33 while Hurse was also impressive with figures of 3/29.
