Community continues to wait on previously promised train service

The Maryborough community is continuing to wait for the additional passenger rail service previously announced in the state budget, despite a number of new services being introduced across the state.

Although the $39 million in funding for the extra service as part of stage two of the Ballarat line upgrade was announced in the state budget and the federal funding required for the upgrades was given the green light all the way back in June, no official word has been given from either V/Line or the State Government on when the additional service will be introduced, despite repeated inquiries from The Maryborough District Advertiser.

Although the wait continues for Maryborough, in August a new V/Line timetable was announced with 151 new train services introduced across the state, including extra services to Ararat and Beaufort.

The first additional service to be added to Maryborough since the line was re-opened in 2010 was introduced in January this year, however, no weekend service has been added to the Maryborough timetable since 2010.
