Hutchins switches portfolios after sacking Central Goldfields council

Just weeks after introducing a bill to state parliament to dismiss the Central Goldfields Shire Council, Natalie Hutchins has moved on from her position as Minister for Local Government, continuing the change of leadership for the shire.

Marlene Kairouz was announced by Premier Daniel Andrews as the new Minister for Local Government last week and said she is working closely with interim administrator Mark Davies to assess and work through the problems at the Central Goldfields Shire Council.

“We’re continuing to fix serious issues at Central Goldfields Shire Council, while we look to appoint long-term administrators,” Ms Kairouz said.

“We’ve taken strong action to restore proper governance and ensure ratepayers get the service they deserve.”

Ms Kairouz is currently considering the longer term appointment of the panel of administrators, which are set to be appointed no later than November 25, 2017.

Central Goldfields Shire Council interim administrator Mark Davies confirmed that he had been working with Ms Kairouz and said that she has been fully briefed on his role as interim administrator.

Mr Davies said the process to appoint long-term administrators has not been halted during the change of portfolio.
