Hundreds of veteran golfers are set to converge on Maryborough and surrounds next week for the Victorian Veterans Golfers Association’s State Sandgreen Championships.
The Talbot Golf Club was called up at late notice to host the event, which begins on Sunday, August 13, and one of the tournament organisers Derek Marsden says it’s taken a team effort to get everything in readiness.
“Normally a club has 12 months to prepare for the event, but we only had five months,” Marsden said.
“We’ve actually got the event next year too, so we knew what we needed to do and haven’t really had too many issues,” he said.
The club is run entirely by volunteers, which means countless hours have been put in by members to ensure Talbot’s greens are the envy of the state.
