Top trio

Keely Hare, Bella Westbrook and Jordan Macilwain are proving the future is bright for the Maryborough Football Netball Club. The trio have been rewarded for their outstanding seasons with selection in the
North Central netball side.

Three of Maryborough’s brightest stars have earned selection in the prestigious North Central netball side, which will compete at the Netball Victoria State Titles in Melbourne later this year.

Jordan Macilwain (open age), Keely Hare (17 and under) and Bella Westbrook (15 and under) all earned selection following a rigorous selection process and standout seasons.

The fact that Maryborough has a player selected across three different age divisions is true testament to the work being put in to develop the side’s junior stocks.

Macilwain has been a leader in that department, both on and off the court, and says the mentor role she has undertaken was her main motivation for trying out for the North Central side.

“I wanted to show the younger girls what they can achieve, so hopefully this inspires a few more to try to take their netball as far as they can,” Macilwain said.

Maryborough may not be as big as some of the district league clubs, however it has a strong selling point in the fact it participates in a major league (Bendigo Football Netball League).
