A sea of smiling young faces packed into the Maryborough Sports & Leisure Centre on Tuesday evening, all eager to get up close and personal with NBA and Australian basketball star Matthew Dellavedova.

With two months until the NBA season kicks off, Dellavedova returned home to Maryborough this week and took the time to hold a skills clinic with the budding young basketball talent in the district.

“The clinic is something I really love doing each time I come home,” Dellavedova said.

“It’s been going since I was in college, which was about six to seven years ago now and I really enjoy coming back each year and seeing how far everyone has progressed,” he said.

On a wet, dreary night, hundreds packed into the centre to go over

some of the game’s fundamentals and meet the local star, a show of support Dellavedova says he’s felt the entire way through his basketball career.

“Everyone from town has always supported me in my career and it’s always meant a lot to me,” he said.
