They’re two institutions often viewed as competitors in the local football and netball landscape, but this weekend the Maryborough Football Netball Club is opening its doors to the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League.

Maryborough will play host to Kangaroo Flat at Princes Park this Sunday and with no other local games scheduled for the day, the club has dedicated the round five contest as an open day for clubs from the neighbouring league.

As part of the initiative representatives from MCDFNL clubs have been invited to the game, an afternoon tea at halftime of the Maryborough versus Kangaroo Flat match and members of MCDFNL clubs can gain entry to the game for the discounted price of $5 when they present their membership cards at the gate.

MFNC president Brendan Roughead said the day was about eroding the misconception that his club was in direct competition with the MCDFNL.

“As the Maryborough Football Netball Club, our opposition is the nine other clubs competing in the Bendigo Football League,” he said.
