Crunching tackles, piercing kicks and pack marks aren’t usually part of a school day, but that was the case this week as students from Maryborough Education Centre and Highview College went head-to-head in an historic game of football.
On Tuesday close to 50 students took to the field in the contest that saw two all-female teams represent the schools for the first time in their history.
Highview College teacher Luke Treacy said the aim of the game was to promote the sport of women’s
football to a younger age bracket as well as provide exposure for Maryborough’s local girls’ football team, the Carisbrook Lions.
“Over the past couple of years we have pushed the female football game,” he said.
