Owls well on top in A grade decider

Marc Cassidy helps himself to runs with a cut shot. Cassidy contributed to Maryboroughʼs solid first innings total with a score of 33.

Maryborough sits on the cusp of claiming yet another MDCA A grade premiership title after a dominant first innings per- formance over the opening weekend of play in its grand final clash against Creswick.

Maryborough captain Corey Taylor won the toss and elected to bat first, however it looked as though he’d made the wrong call as the Owls’ innings got off to a horror start.

Creswick captain Liam Hepworth led from the front early and was all over Maryborough’s top order, taking the vital early scalp of Matt Bilton for eight.

Hepworth struck again moments later, dismissing fellow opener Adam Bell without score, before claiming the prized wicket of Taylor, also without score, to have the Owls 3/9 and in all sorts of trouble.
