The Fire Danger Period has begun in the Central Goldfields Shire.
Marking the official start of the fire season in the local area, the Fire Danger Period came into effect at 1 am yesterday, December 12, 2016 for municipalities in CFA’s North West Region including the Central Goldfields and Mount Alexander shires.
CFA District 2 acting operations manager Trent McKinnon said forecasts show potential for an above average fire season, despite the recent heavy rain and flooding in many parts of the state.
“The rainfall experienced in spring has produced a lot of growth, which could very easily become a high fuel load throughout the summer season if not properly managed,” he said.
“Reducing fuel loads will ensure that if a fire does break out, it has less chance of taking hold or spreading.
“While the CFA does everything it can, we look to the community to use common sense and take responsi- bility for preventing fires.”
Mr McKinnon said there was still a short window of opportunity to clean up your property if you haven’t already done so.
