Matthew Dellavedova has received an early Christmas present, collecting his NBA championship ring.
Returning to Cleveland for the first time since helping the Cavs break the city’s long-standing championship drought, Dellavedova was greeted with rapturous applause and a standing ovation from the Cleveland faithful.
Dellavedova may now be playing for an opposition team in the Milwaukee Bucks, but the love and affection shown from fans throughout his Cavs playing days was on full display as his highlights were played over the big screen to You’ve got a friend in me, the Randy Newman song popularised through the film Toy Story.
The same affection hasn’t left his former Cleveland teammates either, who swamped him as he received his ring.
“It’s my Christmas present, so, I’m really looking forward to it. My family’s going to be in town and it’s going to be fun,” Dellavedova told Cleveland.com before the game.
The presentation of the ring caps off what can only be described as a remarkable year for one of Maryborough’s favourite sons.
