Massive rainfalls in September led to flooding across the Central Goldfields and set a new rainfall record.

Maryborough has experienced its wettest September on record.

Official rainfall figures from the Bureau of Meteorology show that a total of 166.5 mm fell in Mary- borough last month, making it the wettest September since rainfall records began in 1878.

The amount is close to 20 mm more than the previous record of 148 mm which was set over a century ago in 1912.

The 166.5 mm is also more than triple the month’s average rain of 51.5 mm and almost five times more than the 34.9 millimetres that fell in September of last year.

Nineteen days in which rain was recorded brought about the historic amount, with the wettest coming on Wednesday, September 14 when 59 millimetres fell.
