The remains of the 1866 built Majorca Store.

An electrical fault is blamed for a fire which has destroyed the Majorca store building, reducing a slice of the region’s history to rubble.

The fire broke out in the building on the Talbot Road at Majorca at about 1.40 pm on Wednesday while the resident, an elderly woman, was present.

Fire crews from Carisbrook, Talbot and Maryborough fought to contain the blaze and prevent it spreading to a closely neighbouring Telstra exchange building.
