The Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League’s Mother’s Day and Respect For Women round will be marked with an historic event, with the league’s first representative girls’ side set to play its debut game at Jubilee Oval on Sunday.

With the process of establishing the side to compete in the Ballarat Football League’s Youth Girls’ Competition beginning in February the side now has 20 registered players and will take to the field for the first time against Gisborne after facing the bye in the first round of the 2014 season.

“We’re very excited to start,” coach Brandon Weatherson said at the final training session before Sunday.
