No grog law

All CBD areas in all towns across Central Goldfields Shire are expected to become alcohol “dry zones” within months.

The move follows a motion passed unanimously by the council at its meeting last week.

Consumption of alcohol is currently permitted in central business districts and public areas of towns across the shire, with the exception of Maryborough’s CBD between 9 pm and 6 am.

At its meeting the council resolved to begin the process of amending its general local law governing consumption of alcohol in public places.

Once amended the law would mean a permit would be required to consume alcohol in all wider CBD areas and selected recreational areas of all towns in Central Goldfields.

And Maryborough’s CBD dry zone operational hours would be likely to be extended to all hours.
