Supporters of Maryborough’s train station platform market have collected 500 signatures to a petition calling for the market to continue on the platform.
The market was to have taken place last Sunday on the station platform but was cancelled at late notice following objections from V/Line.
Market organiser and operator of the station antiques emporium, regional wine centre and café, Glenda James, said V/Line had forced her to cancel the market at late notice, leaving her at least $2000 out of pocket.
“I had received the OK from the public transport minister’s office on Friday, September 10 for the market to go ahead and I had all the advertising in place,” Ms James said.
“Then got the call from Joe Helper’s office on Friday 17 just before the market telling me that V/Line would not let the market go ahead,” Ms James said.
