After 35 years the family of missing Maryborough schoolboy Terry Floyd still want closure.

And now, after so many years they believe they will find it in an old mine near Avoca.

On Saturday, June 28, 1975, Terry, 12, went missing from the Pyrenees Highway somewhere between Maryborough and Avoca.

That morning the Maryborough Technical School student had played football for Rovers Football Club’s under-15 side and later went with friends to Avoca.

Reports suggested he may have attempted to hitchhike home.

In 2001 a coroner’s inquest found he died at a place and date unknown from “unknown causes”.

Now the siblings of the lost boy are about to begin excavating a disused mine in bushland near Avoca, an exercise expected to take many weeks.
