Maryborough Police have branded a break-in at the former Maryborough Animal Haven, which resulted in the death of a deer, as a disgrace.
Property owner, Debbie O’Kearney, said she arrived at the former site of the Maryborough Animal Haven off Dooley’s Road, on Thursday morning and saw two youths in the deer enclosure.
She said one youth jumped the fence and escaped, while she pursued another, until he too escaped.
Debbie discovered that the Fallow Deer, which had been born and raised on the property, had become spooked by the intruders and bolted into a fence, causing its death.
She said the deer was roughly 18 months old.
It is believed the two youths broke into the property via a rear fence.
Senior Constable Gavan Kinniburgh from the Maryborough Police Station said those involved should come forward.
