A Maryborough man has appeared in Maryborough Magistrate’s Court charged with murder and attempted murder following a fatal shooting in the town last Sunday.
Samuel Michael Westbrook, 23, appeared in the court on Tuesday charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Mr Westbrook appeared before Magistrate Bruce Cottrill during Tuesday’s filing hearing which lasted only a few minutes.
During the hearing, police prosecutor Senior Constable David Somerton applied for the matter to be adjourned to Bendigo Committal Court for committal mention.
Following Senior Constable Somerton’s application, Magistrate Bruce Cottrill directed that Westbrook be remanded in custody to appear before Bendigo Committal Court on September 29.
Police arrested Westbrook at Wendouree on Monday evening and charged him following the fatal shooting of 52-year-old Peter Westbrook at a Maryborough house in the early hours of Sunday morning.
During Tuesday’s filing hearing the court heard that the victim was believed to be the charged man’s uncle.
