The Maryborough District Health Service has installed a new $80,000 operating table in the hospital’s operating theatre.
The state-of-the-art operating table was funded through the State Government’s 2009-10 Targeted Equipment program.
Member for Ripon, Joe Helper, met with MDHS staff recently to take a closer look at the table, which MDHS director of nursing, Fiona Brew said will make a huge difference for both staff and patients.
“In terms of staffing, it takes a burden off them in terms of manual lifting and improves our occupational health and safety,” Ms Brew said.
“Because it’s automated, it also allows the patient to be manoeuvred to give the best surgical access possible.
“Then, in terms of patient comfort, the padding on the table is much thicker and better quality, so it will make patients more comfortable and lessen the risk of pressure areas being formed during surgery,” Ms Brew said.
