The man accused of slashing the face of a Maryborough teenager with a knife was refused bail in the Bendigo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Twenty-two-year-old Scott Pearson will remain in police custody until June after he was arrested over the alleged incident, which left the 19-year-old victim with a 20 centimetre scar running from his left ear to his chin.
Police allege Pearson slashed the face of the teen with a pocket knife in a “disgraceful and outrageous” attack at 1 am in Maryborough’s Princes Park on Sunday morning.
Police opposed Pearson’s bail application, saying he posed an unacceptable risk to the community and that they harboured fears he may re-offend if released.
Police also said they held concerns over the likelihood of Pearson and the victim running into one another was high in a small country town.
