Last Sunday, members of the Maryborough YMCA Gymnastics Club competed at the Footscray City Gymnastics Gymstar competition.
Maryborough was one of the many clubs competing and the action got underway at 7.30 am.
The competition consists of six apparatus – bars, beam, vault, rings, floor and parallel bars.
Maryborough was represented by four squads, two at level one, one at level two and one at level three, 18 gymnasts in total.
All the Maryborough gymnasts presented themselves well with outstanding results in many apparatus.
The judges in rings and parallel bars were amazed at the skill level of gymnasts who had not had opportunity to train on these apparatus.
All gymnasts had a fantastic experience and are looking forward to competing again.
Maryborough’s team one comprised Kirby Tyers, Briella Gibbs, Tegan Jones, Charlotte Roche and Stella Roche.
Team two – Morgan Prisco, Caitlin Chaple, Brooke Wright and Paige Trickey and all did a fantastic job, each receiving a medal.
Level two team – Decara Jones, Kurtis Lambourn, Kaitlin Murphy and Jasmine McCullagh.
Kurtis and Jasmine got silver in individual overall and Decara and Kaitlin came home with bronze.
The level three team was Ellen Dowie, Ty Elliott, Katherine Dowie, Kellie McKenzie and Abbey Thompson.
Ellen Ty got bronze, while Katherine, Kellie and Abbey got silver in the individual overall score.
All in all, a fantastic effort from the local gymnasts, competing in six apparatus including rings and parallel bars, which the local club doesn’t have!
