There was an excellent turn out for the Maryborough Squash Club’s annual championships.
There was the men’s section, ladies’ section and junior section.
The men’s event had 10 contestants, including one of the junior players.
Five players took part for the junior boys’ title and four ladies contested the ladies section.
The men’s section was hotly contested with Craig Constable probably the favourite to win.
There were some really tough matches for all involved and the final was played between Craig and Shane Miller.
What a great final, with a tie-break in the first and a close last game.
Shane played the match of his life winning the title in three games. A very deserved winner who played some classic squash.
The ladies title was once again played as a round robin event as there are not a lot of female players.
Gail Oliver was the eventual winner, winning all her three matches.
The junior final was played between Cohen Bandy and Josh Vantol. Cohen played well, but Josh had the power and a bit more experience and took out the title.
The plate event for the men was taken out by Rob Hurse and the plate event for the juniors was won by an injured Paul Fettling.
