BULLDOGS BITE BACK
By Graeme Grant • Jul 27th, 2010 • Category: FootballAvoca defeated Newstead at the Avoca Public Park on Saturday in the Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League round 15 clash.
Julian Field dominated around the ground as did Lachlan Edwards as the Bulldogs midfield won the clearances out of the middle on the day.
Newstead lifted the intensity in the final term and got to within four points but the Bulldogs withstood the challenge and kicked away to win 16.12 (108) to 11.8 (74).
The Kangaroos kicked the opening goal of the game through Chris Starritt who was unmarked in the goal square.
The Bulldogs answered quickly when Beau Ketchen shot a handball out of a pack to Edwards and he goaled from 40 metres and then Ketchen followed with another when he took a juggling mark when the Bulldogs attacked from the next centre bounce.
It was a goal for goal tussle but Newstead seemed to be handling the ball better than Avoca and was far more precise with its kicking.
