Maryborough rental prices have increased due to rising demand over the past 18 months, agents say.

Agents say the average rental price for residential properties in the city has risen from around $150 to around $180 a week in the past 18 months.

Maryborough First National Real Estate manager, Craig Bell said that while prices were holding firm, demand for residential properties to purchase was also strong in Maryborough.

“We are short of listings and I think all agents in Maryborough would say the same thing,” Mr Bell said.

Avoca library set to benefit from upgrade

Avoca library opening hours will increase from nine up to 50 a week under a $240,000 revamp of the facility.

Higher ceilings, a raised floor level, new furnishings and a new computer area will also be part of the upgrade.

At its ordinary meeting last Tuesday night the council resolved to allocate $71,000 in Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program funding toward the upgrade.

Dunolly Golf Club held its 2010 annual tournament starting last Friday with the Phelan Funerals 4BBB stableford event.

Winners were Graham Bilson and John Purcell with 49 points on a countback from Barry Lacey and Dave McDonald.
