Assault on court steps

A Maryborough man appeared before the city’s magistrate’s court on Tuesday charged in relation to a violent assault which happened on the court room steps shortly before court began sitting on the same morning.

Jack Linden Forder, 19, was already on Tuesday’s Maryborough Magistrate’s Court list to appear before the court in relation to another matter.

A Maryborough man has appeared in Maryborough Magistrate’s Court charged with murder and attempted murder following a fatal shooting in the town last Sunday.

Samuel Michael Westbrook, 23, appeared in the court on Tuesday charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Mr Westbrook appeared before Magistrate Bruce Cottrill during Tuesday’s filing hearing which lasted only a few minutes.

Man shot dead in Dodds Street home

Police are still trying to locate the man believed responsible for Sunday morning’s fatal shooting in Maryborough.

A 52-year-old Maryborough man was shot dead in the doorway of his Dodds Street home at 4.15 am on Sunday morning.

Grandfather, Peter Westbrook was remembered as a good neighbour who doted on his grandchildren.

Jayden and Darcy in BFL interleague team

The Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football League has now finalised its senior and under 18 teams for tomorrow’s interleague contests at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.

Both senior coach Jeff Brennan, and under 18 coach Ben Dyett and their selectors were faced with the difficult task of reducing their training squads down to the final 23 players to represent Bendigo.
