The “dodgy” installers

While local business has suffered from the fall out of the Federal Government’s dumped insulation installation scheme it seems that home owners are also feeling the effect.

The Advertiser has been in contact with a number of home owners who have had questionable work done in their homes.



Fire forces power to be cut to businesses

Power was cut to several High and Tuaggra street businesses on Wednesday afternoon following a fire in the Asian Noodle Sushi King.

Maryborough Fire Brigade received the call at 3.50 pm following a call to 000 from the business’s owner.



A plan to relay while singing a merry tune

There will be plenty of singing at the Maryborough Relay for Life if the Golden Voices team has anything to do with the entertainment.

The team, made up of members and friends of the Maryborough A cappella Community Choir plans to sing its way around Princes Park during the Maryborough Relay for Life.



JOBS GONE

Ten people were retrenched from their insulation installer jobs on Friday following the Federal Government’s decision to end its home insulation program.

Pyrenees Handyman David Andrews said he had no choice but to lay off the workers with last week’s announcement that the program was to be finished.

Golf Blue, Newstead Blue and Carisbrook Red won the Midlands Bowls Association preliminary finals on Saturday and will be playing in the grand finals this coming Saturday.



Dancing continues during the war years

Many people from near and far have attended dances at various venues in Maryborough over the years but on April 17, an event will focus on the dances held in the Workers’ Hall in Neill Street, now known as the Tren DuBourg Hall, from 1927 until the 1960s.

The 2010 Vision Super Central Goldfields Reverse Triathlon attracted its highest profile field of elite triathletes on Sunday at the Maryborough Olympic Pool.

A bumper field of 125 triathletes completed the Princes Park course in excellent competition conditions, which made for some exceptional times being posted.

Maryborough basketballer, Matthew Dellavedova was awarded his third Jack Worrall Medal on Friday night.

The 2009 medal, and a range of other awards, were presented by the Goldfields Region Sports Association at its annual awards dinner at the Maryborough Highland Society.

Matthew also won the medal in 2006 and 2008 for his impressive list of achievements in his chosen sport.
