DOB THEM IN

Maryborough Police say that information received via CrimeStoppers this week could lead them to those responsible for the torture of Smokey the cat.

Since Smokey’s story appeared on the front of Tuesday’s Maryborough Advertiser, local police have received a number of leads on the case from those anonymously contacting CrimeStoppers.

DISGRACEFUL

Maryborough Police are outraged following the discovery that a family cat was shot 13 times to the head with a slug gun last week.

Smokey, a nine-year-old grey and white fluffy cat, went missing from his Simson Street address last Sunday night, September 13.

The cat’s owners discovered him on their doorstep three days later on Wednesday night, when they heard him crying for food.

The cat’s owner said it was unusual that the cat was missing on Sunday night as he doesn’t generally wander from the house.

They noticed that his face was dirty but on closer inspection they realised it was blood and felt “things” on his head.

“We’re shocked to think that someone could be so cruel and heartless,” Smokey’s owners said.

Smokey was taken to Maryborough Veterinary Practice where staff were able to remove 11 of the pellets.

Two still remain in the cat as they could not be removed.

Maryborough retailer Sportspower was extensively damaged in a ram raid early on Friday morning.

Police understand that a vehicle, possibly an early model Ford Laser, was reversed into the front of the store, causing damage to the store’s electronic doors and shop front at 12.30 am.

About $3000 worth of apparel was stolen from display racks during the robbery.

A passerby notified police as the raid made a significant amount of noise.

It is believed that the damage to the shop is valued around $20,000.
