The Maryborough Supa IGA Blazers have finished in fourth place on the Country Basketball League - North East Conference ladder.

After a weekend of mixed results the Supa IGA Blazers snuck in by the smallest of margins.

With Shepparton needing to defeat Maryborough by 15 points or more in the final home and away game of the season, a hard fought contest saw the Blazers go down by 12 points.

The Maryborough Supa IGA Blazers started 2010 off in style with a convincing 26 point win against the Wangaratta Warriors on Saturday night.

In extremely hot conditions the Supa IGA Blazers jumped the Warriors in the first quarter and built a big lead, which they then held onto for the rest of the game.

The Maryborough Supa IGA Blazers remain undefeated at home after round seven of the Country Basketball League - North East Conference after defeating Echuca Pirates by 43 points on Saturday night.

This was the Blazers’ fifth victory this season and on the final buzzer it was decisive, 102-59.

Maryborough came out firing with coach Matt Johnston hitting back-to-back three pointers to open up a 6-0 lead in the opening minute.



Blazers defeated Gators

In round six of the Country Basketball League - North East Conference, the Maryborough Supa IGA Blazers travelled to Shepparton to take on the Gators.

The Supa IGA Blazers made the trip with only seven players because of injury and other commitments.

With both teams setting their sights on finals this was a vital clash.

Maryborough jumped the Gators in the opening minute and quickly opened up a four point lead.



Saints Black and Bullets Black play exciting draw

In the Maryborough Highland Society Basketball Association open men’s competition last week, Saints Black drew with Bullets Black.
Bullets Black’s Will Short and Matt Cullinan played hard defence. Great three pointer shots by Will Short and Zach Cullinan helped keep Bullets in the match.
